The Grifting Continues

Donald Trump, in his effort to squeeze every penny out of his base, has a new product that he’s selling: The God Bless the USA KJV Bible.

There is something rather repulsive about a non-Christian, who so palpably panders to his fervent Christian Nationalist base, during the most important time of the year in their faith tradition, by selling them a tacky version of their holy book – a book that he’s probably never read, let alone cracked the spine of – that also carries an embossing of the American flag on the front. Republican Jesus is almost certainly smiling at the further wedding of patriotism, religion, and politics.

How well will this sleazy gimmick go over with his base? Probably rather well, as it seems likely that he’s gonna make a bunch of money off this as delusional right wing Americans lap up this bit of patriotic kitsch.

    1. Since Greenwood is the guy who is doing all the leg work, and Trump just licensed his name to the product, I’m half expecting the “God Bless This Pillow [as I lay down to sleep]” from Mike Lindell, and endorsed by Trump, that will help cover some of the costs from attempting to overturn the 2020 election.

  1. Christians are paying for his legal fees. They follow everything he tells them as he is telling them everything that they want, he’ll do it for them when he gets into office. And the Supreme Court is already taking away some of our freedoms. A convicted criminal, running for president, with a bunch of christians voting for him and paying his criminal fees by buying these bibles up. It just goes to show just how selfish and cruel Christianity really is. They have always been a sect that loves to force others to either convert, or conform. To rule over the rest of us. And through Trump, they know they’ll be able to do exactly that. He has no interest in these Christian nationalists, except that they can vote for him, pay his way out of legal trouble, and commit violence upon him giving the order to do it. Trump is using them, and they are using him. The ones who follow him are probably just as bad as he is.

    1. I agree with most of what you said, but there is one thing I’d don’t necessarily agree with.

It just goes to show just how selfish and cruel Christianity really is.

Christianity is a huge tent, and it encompasses a lot of people, along with a lot of different ideas of what their religion is, how it is to be followed, who has to follow it, and even what it means. There is no homogeneous Christianity, even if it is all nonsensical horse crap.

The cruelty is largely coming from those who want to impose their religious views onto everyone else. They are incredibly selfish and cruel, and this appears to be driven by a fusion of their religious and political views. Political Christianity, that is when Christian churches try to gain political power for their own ends, is a dangerous beast and that is where I believe the problem lies. The breaking down of the separation of church and state is directly leading us here.

And yes, I agree, Trump is using these people to achieve his owns ends, and in the end I doubt he gives even the slightest whiff about them or what happens to them. He’ll throw them whatever little scraps are necessary to keep them happy, but he’d happily throw anyone under the bus to save his skin or gain a little more power. Con artists tend to be like that.

  2. According to the book’s official site, the God Bless the USA Bible has nothing to do with Trump’s campaign. It is “not owned, managed, or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Ventures LLC, or any of their respective principals or affiliates.” Instead, Trump’s “name, likeness, and image” are being used “under paid license from CIC Ventures LLC.”

Wait, what is CIC Ventures LLC, though?

Okay, so CIC Ventures LLC is, according to the Washington Post, basically a pipeline to Trump:

In [Trump’s] financial disclosure released last year, he’s identified as the [CIC Ventures LLC’s] “manager, president, secretary and treasurer” and the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust is identified as a 100 percent owner of the business. The same entity also receives royalties from his book “A MAGA Journey” and speaking engagements.

In case it’s not already obvious: if you look at the company’s documents, you’ll find the principal address for CIC Ventures LLC is 3505 Summit Boulevard, West Palm Beach, Florida. That is a Trump golf course. Moreover, in a 2022 disclosure, Nick Luna is listed as a manager. Luna was Trump’s personal assistant and body man.

      1. It was easy to find. I just googled if this Bible selling thing was a scam, but people won’t do that and you do have to feel the source is good..best to check a couple of sources

        1. “but people won’t do that” Bulls-eye! And IMO, this is exactly why the Christian religion continues to thrive. Believers are convinced by their leaders that (their version of) the Bible is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help … well, you know the rest.

    1. As you say, all Trump did was license his name to the product. It didn’t cost him anything to do that, he takes zero risk in this endeavour, and every copy that’s sold makes him a couple dollars for just attaching his name to it. Greenwood is probably the one who stands to make or lose the most.
